James L. Esposito has over 15 years of experience in local property tax appeals, beginning with his clerkship to the Presiding Judge of the New Jersey Tax Court. Jim’s practice focuses on property valuation in tax matters and condemnation. Jim’s strong negotiating skills and his ability to identify key weaknesses of property tax appeals have been invaluable in resolving high profile property tax appeals in this very difficult economic climate. Jim also represents buyers and sellers in real estate transactions.

Jim counsels public and private clients on a multitude of property tax exemption issues involving religious, educational, charitable, hospital and assisted living exemption issues, as well as applications for farmland assessment, farmland roll-back taxes, payments in lieu of tax and tax sale certificates. Jim has also represented numerous state, county and municipal entities in civil disputes before the Tax Court, the Superior Courts and the Appellate Courts of New Jersey.

From 2001 through 2004, Jim proudly served as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey, representing such state agencies as the Division of Taxation, the Department of Labor and the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.

Jim has served as lead counsel to municipalities and property owners throughout the State in appeals of mixed-use commercial properties, casinos, pharmaceutical/research & development complexes, hotels/motels, office buildings, special-purpose manufacturing facilities and warehouses. He has handled all aspects of litigation involving appeals of every type of property, from apartment complexes, condominiums and golf courses to vacant land suitable for development

Prior to joining the firm, Jim was a partner with a large multi-practice law firm for almost a decade before becoming a managing member of a boutique law firm in New Jersey.
