Lauren X. Topelsohn is a Member of the Firm’s Commercial Litigation, Labor and Employment and Privacy and Cybersecurity and Intellectual Property practice groups. Her practice focus is business, employment and intellectual property consultation and litigation. Lauren regularly acts as an outside general counsel, advising clients on daily operational issues as well as representing them in Court. Her multi-disciplinary approach informs her strategic counsel, balancing legal rights and obligations with real-world practicalities and risk management concerns.

A seasoned litigator and appellate attorney, Lauren’s civil and commercial litigation experience includes business and corporate disputes, breach of contract, fraud, copyright and trademark, privacy and defamation, and internet, cyber-fraud and e-commerce issues. Lauren has litigated in state and federal courts throughout country, and arbitrated matters before the American Arbitration Association (AAA), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and other alternative dispute forums.

Lauren has extensive employment law and human resources experience, including hiring, discipline and termination issues, ADA accommodation, and wage & hour matters. Lauren regularly negotiates and drafts employment and severance agreements on behalf of employers and executives, and litigates employment discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, whistleblowing (SOX and Dodd-Frank) and restrictive covenants actions. In addition to her trial experience, Lauren has represented clients before the Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other administrative agencies.

Lauren’s clients have ranged from large, publicly traded companies to startups and individuals. She represents clients in all aspects of intellectual property law (trademark and copyright), including, branding and licensing, trade secrets, and publicity and privacy rights, and in a variety of industries including fashion, luxury goods, publishing, media, e-commerce and technology.

As a former in-house General Counsel and Operations Officer, Lauren’s transaction experience includes business formation, acquisition and separation agreements, purchase and sales, and business transitions. Her hands-on business background and litigation experience enables her to identify potential issues to avoid later disputes.
