Tenafly Litigator Steven Adler Obtains Nearly $6 Million in Settlements for Victims of Workplace Sexual Assault

Successes Come Following Recent Decisions Made by New York and New Jersey to Extend the Statute of Limitations for Sexual Assault Claims against Employers

Steven Adler has obtained nearly $6 million dollars in settlements for victims of workplace sexual assault over the past year. The settlements were achieved after new laws were passed in New York and New Jersey, extending the statute of limitations for filing a sexual assault claim against employers.

Steven, who co-chairs the law firm’s litigation department, and labor and employment practice group, adeptly handled two of these claims, settling one matter without litigation and the other shortly after filing suit, for a combined total of more than $6 million. “The suits were challenging because so much time had lapsed between the alleged assaults and the assertion of the claims,” Steve said. “Additionally, in one case there was very little documentation providing circumstantial evidence of the sexual assault. I was therefore thrilled that I was able to obtain such a great result for our clients.”

Separately, in the past year Steven and Mandelbaum Salsburg attorneys Michael Saffer, Arla Cahill and Brian Block also secured a $3.2 million settlement in a class action suit involving account executives of a Fortune 100 company who were wrongly classified as exempt from federal overtime laws. The successful settlement, which followed six years of federal court litigation, increased Steven’s total settlements achieved to more than $9 million over the past 12 months.

During his almost 40 years of practice, Steve has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in all types of employment disputes, including age, race, sex and disability discrimination lawsuits, as well as lawsuits involving harassment, restrictive covenants, wage and hour disputes, trade secrets and ERISA withdrawal liability cases.

He has been named one of Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers in employment litigation for more than 15 years, and has also been awarded Martindale-Hubbell’s highest peer rating standard of AV Preeminent, which is given to attorneys who are ranked at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal expertise, communication skills, and ethical standards.
Steve has mediated many cases for the Civil Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County. He also frequently lectures and writes extensively on employment law topics, and has taught a range of law courses as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
